The Lifetime Walking Challenge

“I will walk every day for the rest of my life to stay healthy.”

That's the whole challenge. Not 10,000 steps. Not a program with a start date and a quiet failure in week three. One sentence, kept loosely, for decades.

The flagship idea

Awe walks vs. fitness walks

Two entirely different activities that happen to look identical from the outside. Most women over 40 are doing plenty of one and almost none of the other.

The fitness walk

Has a job. Pace, distance, heart rate, a route you know the length of. Genuinely good for blood sugar, joints, bone and heart.

You need more of these if you're mostly sitting, flat rather than frayed, and movement has simply fallen out of the diary.

The awe walk

Has no job. The only instruction is to notice things, vast, odd, or beautiful. No watch, no target, no metric except what you saw.

You need more of these if you're already doing a lot, your jaw is tight, and one more tracked activity would finish you off.
